“ Yesterday we actually managed to hand a shirt and a letter to Patti Smith, who played a concert here in Oslo last night. So when Patti Smith entered the stage in Oslo she held the t-shirts up high in front, a gesture she did several times during her show. During the concert she kept making jokes like "well he has a sense of humour, in oposite to Putin". She gave a small and poetic speech about Pussy Riot, where she among other things said that "they're only crime is beeing young, arrogant and beautiful!". She dedicated a song, Pissing in the river to the girls in prison, and even mentioned the case in the song The people have the power!”

July 27 Washington D.C. Rally at the Russian Embassy for Pussy Riot

Join Amnesty International USA, DC Artist Andrea Collins, and local Punk Rock Bands for a combination Rally & Punk Concert, outside the Russian Embassy (on Wisconsin Avenue between Davis and Edmunds) on Thursday, July 27 from 4-8 p.m.

From 4:30- 6 p.m. Amnesty International USA will lead protest chants directly outside of the embassy. We will then take the noise across the street where, from 6-8 p.m, local DC Punk Bands will play in tribute to Pussy Riot, and representatives from the Art and Human Rights community will speak about the case.

Pussy Riot is a Russian, feminist, punk-rock collective that stages politically provocative impromptu performances in Moscow, on subjects such as the status of women in Russia, and most recently against the election campaign of Prime Minister Putin for president of Russia.
On 4 July, the trio were given a 2,800 page indictment and told their defense must be ready by 9 July, giving only two working days to study the document. They announced a hunger strike in response, saying that the time was inadequate.
