In his interview with Kommersant FM, S. Lavrov, the Foreign Affairs Minister of RF, stated that he considers the punk-prayer of Pussy Riot a blasphemy. "While in the West, some consider that performance an innocent joke that expresses freedom of speech, the Russian society will not accept it. It is a blasphemous act and a sacrilege". He added that he and the Russian people are of the same opinion with regards to the rights of "sexual minorities" and homosexuals, which, as he stated, form time to time cause "nervous reactions" of the EU, while the Russian people are only trying to preserve their traditional values and protect the society from the homosexual propaganda. He added that Russia, as a "normal state" follows the values contained in the Universal Declaration of Human rights, and any attempt to add extra interpretations of human rights, such as in the case with the homosexuality, does not correspond the universal values contained in the declaration"
